Huhnerhaus

My friend Jessica asked me why I haven’t written any food posts in a while. This post’s for you!

Let’s clear some things up. Pork knuckle is not actually a pig’s knuckles. Think of it as a pork drumstick…a tasty and flavor-infused drumstick. We stopped by Huhnerhaus in Berlin, hungry for a nice meal. I’d seen my friend order a pork knuckle from our last dinner, and since it looked amazingly good, I decided to give it a go here.

The pork knuckle that came out was oh-so-good. So tender that the meat peeled off instantly. Very flavorful, without being too salty or oily. Just the right balance of meat, fat, and crisp skin. The sauerkraut that came with the dish balanced out the meaty flavor with some tangy-ness. The “dumplings,” which I thought were mashed potatoes, were a surprise – it reminded me of an Asian bun, with a slightly softer texture.

Overall, it was a dinner that I imagine an ancient king would eat. Amazing meal that was tasty and filling!
