Au Pied de Fouet

After our visit to the Louvre today, we were pretty hungry and decided to splurge a bit on dinner. Imagine our surprise when we found out about an authentic French restaurant that served amazing food without breaking the bank!

Called Au Pied de Fouet, this restaurant was tucked away in a quaint side-street of Paris, away from a lot of the foot traffic but still central enough to be a half-mile walk from Louvre Museum. We were greeted by a nice waiter who chatted with us about where we were from – seems like the restaurant didn’t get too many tourists.

I ordered the duck confit main course, and it was phenomenal. My mouth is still salivating just from thinking about the juicy and ridiculously tender meat, Seriously, the meat practically peeled off of the bone at the touch of the fork, and the mashed potatoes and red wine balanced the duck very well. The portion was surprisingly large – I’d expected a much smaller course since it was French gourmet, but by the end of dinner I was full and satisfied. At 12.50 Euros (~$16), this meal is practically a steal, especially in this part of town, where prices are tourist-high.

Make this a must-visit whenever you find yourself in Paris – you won’t be disappointed!
