Black Bear Diner

It was a beautiful Saturday morning and I’d just woken up, hungry for some quality brunch. My roommates and I decided to hit up IKEA for some cheap and tasty food. But alas! The line stretched beyond the line dividers, and we were starving by then.

So we decided to try out a brand new restaurant across the street from Bay Street Emeryville called Black Bear Diner. So happy that we went. The place was decorated like one of those diners you see next to the snow-covered mountains at some ski resort. Huge cabin, lots of statues of bears, and an overall very inviting and feels-like-home decor.

We were quickly seated and received newsletters – except the menu was actually printed inside the main spread. Pretty cool stuff. I ordered The Grizz because it looked like a huge and appetizing breakfast – 2 sweet cream pancakes, 3 eggs (sunny side up), 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausage links, and a ham steak with hash browns. Did I mention that I was starving?

The meal was really, really good. Definitely better than IHOP and Denny’s-quality breakfasts. The sweet cream pancakes were massive, and everything else was cooked fresh. I was beyond full by the time I finished my plate, but it was definitely worth every bite.
