Skates On The Bay

If you drive down University away from Berkeley, you’ll eventually reach a gem of a place called the Berkeley Marina. The Marina is one of my favorite places in the city of Berkeley, and is an amazingly beautiful and serene place where you can go to just enjoy the scenery and think.

Skates On The Bay is a well-known restaurant at the Marina, built on the waterfront, with a great view of the water and a nice classy interior. I went with some of my senior friends several weeks ago to enjoy a nice dinner, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed.

I had played basketball earlier that day and was starving, so I decided to go big and order the 12 oz. Rock Salt Roasted Prime Rib, which the menu described as “slow roasted all day under a mountain of rock salt, rubbed with fresh garlic and herbs.” It was a delicious steak, very juicy and tender, a bit saltier than usual (which I attribute to the rock salt), and a bit more rare than usual (hence the tenderness).

All in all a great dining experience, and time well-spent with friends. I’d also recommend their happy hour – great deals on food and drinks!
