The Toaster Oven

I remember the first time eating at The Toaster Oven like it was yesterday. It was the end of the Spring 2011 semester, and after a mad scramble to apply for internships at the end of semester, I got my first interview in SF. After the interview, this sandwich shop was one of the first places I checked out in the city, and I remember being pretty impressed with the food and hoping to stop by more often.

I ended up not getting an offer from that company, but I did end up interning with another one in the city. Needless to say, I didn’t get the chance to stop by The Toaster Oven again. Until now.

Yes, The Toaster Oven has opened in Berkeley. Located next to Chipotle, this sandwich shop is a more hip version of Subway and has a nice variety of sandwiches, made fresh to order and toasted.

I ordered their signature KC BBQ Chicken Sandwich – Kansas City-style barbecue chicken with provolone cheese, plus the usual condiments/veggies. All the ingredients were fresh, and although the sandwich was a bit messy to eat, it was a delicious and satisfying meal. Bonus points for playing Hendrix over their sound system.

Looks like Chipotle will soon take a hit during peak hours.
